Seeking Art & Article Submissions for the Journal of the American Herbalists Guild!

Spring 2024 Call for Art & Article Submissions

Deadline: February 15, 2024

We are seeking submissions for the Spring 2024 issue of the Journal of the American Herbalists Guild!  We invite authors to contribute manuscripts on all aspects of herbalism with an emphasis on the clinical, historical, and professional application of botanical medicines. We encourage herbalists of all persuasions to submit pieces for the journal, with the hope of especially elevating the voices of racialized, queer/trans/non-binary, and chronically ill/disabled herbalists globally. We accept manuscripts on a variety of topics, ranging from short pieces such as book reviews or case studies to longer peer-reviewed articles on therapeutics, materia medica, and ethnobotany.

The theme for the Spring 2024 issue is Harm Reduction. The term “harm reduction” commonly refers to a person-centered framework that aims to reduce the negative consequences associated with drug use. Harm reduction is also a movement for social justice built on a belief in, and respect for, the rights and humanity of people who use drugs. For herbalists, there is a movement to position ourselves and our practices within the harm reduction model and to better understand the unique role herbal medicine can play in supporting people struggling with addiction and withdrawal.

Submissions related to the theme will be prioritized for the upcoming issue. That said, we will happily review any article that meets the criteria outlined in our submission guidelines, including those that fall outside of the issue’s theme. We welcome submissions from both seasoned and new writers and are happy to provide support throughout the writing process. Literature reviews and research-oriented papers are expected to meet academic standards, with authenticated claims and adequate referencing. Traditional approaches should be scholarly and referenced to the informing traditional clinical sources. All papers must be written to the highest standard and incorporate clear presentation of information, argument(s), and data. Those wishing to write or with ideas for articles or nominations of potential authors are warmly encouraged to contact the Editor with proposals or for assistance. All AHG members are invited to submit brief case histories on an ongoing basis.

Additionally, the JAHG is now accepting art submissions to be included throughout the journal. Visual art such as photography, drawing, painting, mixed media collages, and more will be considered.

All submissions may be sent to jahgeditor@americanherbalistsguild.com. Submissions will be accepted until February 15th, 2024 at 12 pm EST. Questions or concerns? Email jahgeditor@americanherbalistsguild.com. We look forward to your contribution to the Journal!
