Sky House Herb School

The Sky House Herb School is a donation-based herb school offering one and two year online herbal apprenticeship programs. Our courses include optional in-person medicine making classes and herb walks for local students in the Maryland/DC/Va area. For those joining from afar, all classes are streaming live and allow for interactive sharing via chatboxes and video cameras. Each class is recorded and students can listen to classes anytime throughout the course. The first year program provides an introduction to herbalism, human physiology, materia medica, medicine making, and basic clinical skills. In the first year students will be assigned plant "dietas" where they will work with one plant for a 2-3 week period and will journal their experiences. By the end of the first year students will have personally worked with 15 plants and will have experience making tinctures, teas, decoctions, salves, and infused oils.

In the second year program students will use their first year knowledge of people and plants and apply it to case studies and live clients. Clinical skills including tongue and pulse diagnosis will be taught as well as custom formulation preparation. The apprenticeship style of learning is best suited for those who are self-motivated and enjoy reading, writing, reflecting, and can devote a few hours each week to studying the plants.

Classes start each May and September.

Sky House Yoga

Sky House Yoga and the Sky House Wellness Collective was born during the Autumn eclipse season of 2011 after several months of intense work and planning, and after several years of dreaming and visioning by its founders: Ashley Litecky, Abby Burgess, and Adam Elenbaas.

At the heart of the Sky House vision lies the ancient spiritual marriage between yoga, astrology, and plant medicine. In addition to these core offerings it's our mission to provide the best in local holistic practitioner services and cutting edge wellness workshops.

Perhaps most important to the Sky House mission is our financial philosophy. Sky House is a donation based yoga studio and wellness collective. This means that we offer all of our services at donation-based price ranges, ensuring that nobody is ever turned down or priced out for a lack of funding. Since opening our doors to the community Sky House has been thriving under this trust and faith based business model.

Twice a year Sky House holds annual fundraisers and raises money to ensure that our donations prices can be maintained year round. Those who have more give more, which enables those who have less to pay only what they can afford. The Sky House vision of wealth is based in peace of heart, peace of mind, the peace of community, and a sincere sense of gratitude for the gift of life.

The Hermit’s Grove Master Herbalist Program

Master Herbalist Program
Our Master Herbalist Program [MHP] represents the culmination of more than 40 years of Paul Beyerl’s work as herbal author and educator.
Conceived in the 1980s in Minneapolis under a different name, over the years it evolved into our Master Herbalist Program with our 45,000 square foot private botanical garden, with more than a third of our 4,000 book research library directly relevant to the MHP.  The MHP is in-depth with no two students moving at the same pace. As a consequence, it is ideal for the correspondent student but does require self-motivation.
The MHP is a non-profit educational program. Beyerl and all volunteers donate 100% of our labor and time as our gift to the serious student who is committed to a quality herbal education.
There are 100 Units, a pay-as-you-go program, so that the student can afford books, herbs, equipment and time. The MHP covers herbal horticulture, and typical coursework. We also cover anatomy and physiology in ten courses; more than 100 infectious diseases and other conditions, history, ethics and more. To date more than 50% of those who complete the program are RNs.
Although challenging due to its depth, my goal is to bring the most education for the least student expense. The program itself, not counting books, herbs and equipment the student will need, is under $3,000 at $30.00 per unit with some reduced options available.
Information and application: $5.00 which includes the most current description of the program (in detail), an application form, the current edition of The Hermit’s Lantern and a complete catalog. If you live outside North America, please send $6.50 in U.S. funds.

The Human Path, (Herbal Medics University)

The Human Path, (aka Herbal Medics University), offers interactive online, on-site and experiential programs to learn many facets of practical herbalism in five major areas:

-          Clinical herbalism:  Study and practice (including hundreds of clinical hours in our student clinics locally and internationally) of the clinical practice of herbalism and integrative medicine at the community level.

-          Advanced medicine making:  The art and science of the apothecary, both as a standalone business (or recreation) or a part of an herbal clinic.

-          Remote and post-disaster herbalism: From wilderness first responder to community emergency response, integrating safety, planning, security and trauma response with herbal medicine.

-          Women’s and children’s health and doula certification:  Understanding women’s health at every age, as well as basic pediatric herbalism and integrative medicine, along with an optional doula certification that exceeds the hours and requirements of DONA.

-          Sustainable gardening and wildcrafting:  Understanding regenerative, sustainable agriculture, environmental studies and wildcrafting of herbal medicine both as a backyard connection to the planet, as well as a business.

All five of these areas contribute to the concept of herbal medics team work both in the USA and abroad to help bring better health to underserved communities.  Students often volunteer on herbal medics (a non-profit organization) missions where they can work in herbal clinics, water purification projects, off-grid power and building and more, while also gaining an immense amount of experience and practical knowledge.
