Bellebuono School of Herbal Medicine

The Bellebuono School of Herbal Medicine is one of the most welcoming and popular programs for beginner, intermediate and advanced herbalists and for any health care practitioner or professional who wants to include plant medicine in his or her practice. Directed by award-winning herbalist, apothecary director, teacher, national speaker, and author Holly Bellebuono, this program introduces students to the beauty and function of herbs for medicine with a focus on herbal formulary by body system. Successful completion confers a certificate and credential, and the rigorous formulary-and-pharmacology-based curriculum has been especially useful for herbalists, wellness coaches, naturopathic students, botanists, pharmacists, midwives, ecologists, women’s specialists, and alternative healers.

We offer 3 programs:

1) THE 2-WEEK HERBAL INTENSIVE on Martha's Vineyard. Every Summer we host a delightful and engaging 2-week training and certification intensive for intermediate and advanced learners. The 2017 Intensive will take place June 22 - July 6 (Early Bird Registration ends March 21 2017). This fantastic learning opportunity on the beautiful island of Martha's Vineyard teaches the herbal curriculum in a dynamic small-group setting for an engaging exploration of all herbal medicine has to offer. We meet in a casual and supportive environment to study plant ID, harvesting, processing, apothecary, case studies, jurisprudence, and more--with an emphasis on herbal formulary. With its in-depth focus on how herbs work in the body (the curriculum is organized by body system), the 2-Week Intensive also includes hands-on experience processing a variety of folk remedies (the 4-Day Apothecary Weekend). Students also participate in multiple herb walks, field trips, and garden explorations around the beautiful island of Martha's Vineyard, as well as kitchen processing, pharmacology and physiology based on the body's primary systems (respiratory, reproductive, digestive, etc.). Our studies include the heritage and folklore of healing, the philosophy of healers from around the world, and more. If you want to deepen your understanding of herbs and how they work in the body--and to learn how to apply herbal formulary in family and community settings-- this is the course for you. Every year this is a very well-received program that strengthens students' abilities and builds community.

Pre-requisite: intermediate experience/education in either plants (gardening, farming, botany, etc.) OR healthcare (nursing, midwifery, herbalism, etc.)

Certificate Earned: Community Herbalist Certificate

Tuition: Early Bird: $2,295 (until March 21). Normal Tuition: $2,495 (until June 1)

Housing: Beds are available at our Herbal HQ, a fantastic and comfortable house where we hold most of our classes and workshops. The house is in walking distance to West Tisbury post office, grocery store, bank, pharmacy and pizza place and we offer both small beds ($700/2weeks) and king beds ($980/2weeks), which is some of the most affordable summer housing on the island. Past students have loved living in the Herbal HQ as it creates a unique and friendly environment and makes classes and coursework very convenient.

Note: This is an intermediate program, not an advanced clinical program. We do not cover diagnosis, cancer, or diabetes. It is, however, a comprehensive introduction to the complex how and why of herbal healing and pharmacology.

This is automatically included in the 2-Week Herbal Intensive, and it can also be taken as as a stand-alone workshop. Dates: June 22 - 25 2017. $595.

3) THE DISTANCE/ON-LINE PROGRAM. Enroll any time and complete the course from your own home. This option is a 7- month self-paced curriculum for beginners with an emphasis on Holly’s 4-Tier Philosophy of Formulary. It consists of 19 lessons (divided into 3 sets) based on men’s and women’s body systems as well as Hands-On Apothecary Assignments using a variety of plants and techniques. Cedar Mountain Herb School

Based in Bothell, WA, an easy drive from Seattle across Lake Washington, CMHS has been serving herbal students for 30 years. This makes it one of the longest-running herbal schools in the Pacific Northwest. Cedar Mountain Herb School inspires and guides students to better health through medicinal plants and health education on many levels – including diet and stress management. CMHS’s hands-on, integrated botanical programs center on wild medicinal plants and their applications. We also mentor advanced students who have completed at least a full year apprenticeship at CMHS, and are building their herb businesses.

Students of many experiential levels attend CMHS: from MDs, naturopaths, chiropractors, acupuncturists, nurses, physical therapists, nutritionists, massage practitioners and other health professionals, to students who wish to start an herb business, to those who want to practice on a friends-and-family level by providing healthy, nourishing herbs and remedies. All of our students share a common desire for valuable, practical herbal knowledge.

Motivated students participate in the wildcrafting apprenticeship programs, 1 day workshops, and herbal intensives. CMHS director Suzanne Tabert seamlessly bridges herbalism with Western medicine and science. Training at CMHS allows herbalists to speak the evolving language of modern medicine, and helps medical doctors better equip themselves to answer their patients’ herbal questions.

Get out into nature’s classroom, get your hands dirty, meet the plants where they live, and start a relationship that will last a lifetime. You’ll learn more about wild plants, their work in the body, and yourself than you ever thought possible. We go where they grow!

Suzanne Tabert, bioregional herbalist, is director of herbal education and herbalist mentor at the Cedar Mountain Herb School. An herbal medicine instructor for 30 years, Suzanne teaches with great passion and excitement, bringing her wealth of herbal knowledge to students in an engaging and vibrant manner. Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine

The Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine is located in the botanically rich Appalachian Mountains, just outside of Asheville, NC. Our passion for healing plants, herbal education, and medicinal gardening is at the heart of all our teachings. We offer several online opportunities to learn, including the Herbal Medicine Making Course and the Herbal Immersion Program. The Online Herbal Medicine Making Course will give you the know-how and confidence to create an abundant apothecary. The hands-on instructional videos and photographic tutorials are chock-full of personal experience and insider tips, along with a hearty dose of silliness. In the Online Herbal Immersion Program, you’ll learn all about herb cultivation, medicine making, and therapeutic uses for each featured herb. In a nutshell, the course has two equal and integrated parts: How to grow medicinal plants and how to bring their medicine into your daily life. Both courses weave together video instruction, written lesson plans, and experiential learning. Just as locally grown food is key to long-term sustainability, locally grown medicine is equally as important. That’s why our programs focus on growing your own herbs and all the ways you can enrich your life with edible and medicinal weeds. Our connection to plants as medicine nourishes this ancient spirit and wakes us up to the profound natural cycles of life. We’re honored to share that connection with you, and we hope it brings you as much joy as it brings us.

The program includes Anatomy & Physiology and Materia Medica incorporating approximately 200 western herbs and encompassing botanical description, distribution, cultivation, harvest, constituents, properties, formulae & dosages and contraindications. This 1-year program utilizes a distance learning delivery method in which the program is completed by traditional, self-directed home study.

In 1989, in order to meet the growing demand for advanced herbal studies, the Clinical Herbal Therapy Diploma Program was developed to enable individuals with a strong sense of vocation to practice as a Clinical Herbal Therapist. Also introduced at this time was the Clinical Herbal Therapy Diploma Program Specially Structured for Health Care Professionals at the Physician Level. This vocational program in the art and science of Herbal Therapeutics provides a comprehensive system of training on how the body functions in health and illness, how herbs can affect the functioning of the body, how to assess an individual’s relative state of health and how to choose the correct herbs to treat different ailments. This 4-year program utilizes a combined delivery method of distance and onsite learning in which the course work is completed by traditional, self-directed home study together with onsite attendance at a 5-day seminar at the end of each academic year, completion of 510 supervised clinic hours at Dominion Herbal College Approved Clinics during Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 and a Final Practical Clinical Exam at the end of Year 4. ECLECTIC SCHOOL OF HERBAL MEDICINE

What kind of herbal school are you looking for? If you answered one with a clinical focus, our programs might be exactly what you are looking for. Our founder and head instructor has been seeing clients for well over a decade, having a practice in Alabama, Florida, and now North Carolina. Thomas Easley’s experiences, and passion for teaching others how to approach clients in a clinical setting, are the main driving forces behind our mission here at Eclectic School of Herbal Medicine. We want to give you the herbal skills in clinical nutrition, functional medicine, and traditional western herbalism to leave the program feeling confident in pursuing your practice as an herbalist. Eclectic /iˈklektik/: Adjective; deriving ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources. Not so long ago there was a group of doctors in America that practiced Eclectic Medicine. They were physicians who employed whatever was found to be beneficial to their patients. Eclectic Medicine was formed in opposition to the toxic remedies used by standard doctors in the 19th and early 20th century. Eclectics didn’t care who discovered the remedy, if it worked they used it. Be it botanical, homeopathic, mineral or occasionally chemical medicines to bring balance to the body. Our school teaches students to use what works, no matter what tradition it comes from. With a strong grounding in both modern science and Traditional Western Herbalism, Eclectic School of Herbal Medicine offers both online and in-person educational opportunities.

If you are interested in becoming a strong grounded clinical herbal practitioner give us a call today.

Eclectic School of Herbal Medicine Online

Eclectic School of Herbal Medicine is offering online classes presented as individual modules. Over the course of the next 2 to 3 years, all required course material for certification will be presented, recorded and accessible for purchase through our online classroom. There are also live-hands on classes scheduled for each tier. Not all are required. With each module you will gain access to readings, recordings and a forum to ask questions and access additional information.

Onsite Full-Time Program

The intensive is an eleven month live-in program, although commuting is welcome. Our lodging options are shared dorms, private rooms or cabins. Although our accommodations contain modern amenities such as a bathhouse and laundry facilities, you’ll still feel like you’re living in the wilderness. Over 90% of the land is set aside for plant preservation and land conservancy.

Sky House Yoga

Sky House Yoga and the Sky House Wellness Collective was born during the Autumn eclipse season of 2011 after several months of intense work and planning, and after several years of dreaming and visioning by its founders: Ashley Litecky, Abby Burgess, and Adam Elenbaas.

At the heart of the Sky House vision lies the ancient spiritual marriage between yoga, astrology, and plant medicine. In addition to these core offerings it's our mission to provide the best in local holistic practitioner services and cutting edge wellness workshops.

Perhaps most important to the Sky House mission is our financial philosophy. Sky House is a donation based yoga studio and wellness collective. This means that we offer all of our services at donation-based price ranges, ensuring that nobody is ever turned down or priced out for a lack of funding. Since opening our doors to the community Sky House has been thriving under this trust and faith based business model.

Twice a year Sky House holds annual fundraisers and raises money to ensure that our donations prices can be maintained year round. Those who have more give more, which enables those who have less to pay only what they can afford. The Sky House vision of wealth is based in peace of heart, peace of mind, the peace of community, and a sincere sense of gratitude for the gift of life.

The Hermit’s Grove Master Herbalist Program

Master Herbalist Program

Our Master Herbalist Program [MHP] represents the culmination of more than 40 years of Paul Beyerl’s work as herbal author and educator.

Conceived in the 1980s in Minneapolis under a different name, over the years it evolved into our Master Herbalist Program with our 45,000 square foot private botanical garden, with more than a third of our 4,000 book research library directly relevant to the MHP.  The MHP is in-depth with no two students moving at the same pace. As a consequence, it is ideal for the correspondent student but does require self-motivation.

The MHP is a non-profit educational program. Beyerl and all volunteers donate 100% of our labor and time as our gift to the serious student who is committed to a quality herbal education.

There are 100 Units, a pay-as-you-go program, so that the student can afford books, herbs, equipment and time. The MHP covers herbal horticulture, and typical coursework. We also cover anatomy and physiology in ten courses; more than 100 infectious diseases and other conditions, history, ethics and more. To date more than 50% of those who complete the program are RNs.

Although challenging due to its depth, my goal is to bring the most education for the least student expense. The program itself, not counting books, herbs and equipment the student will need, is under $3,000 at $30.00 per unit with some reduced options available.

Information and application: $5.00 which includes the most current description of the program (in detail), an application form, the current edition of The Hermit’s Lantern and a complete catalog. If you live outside North America, please send $6.50 in U.S. funds.
