Interested in working at our 30th Annual Symposium? We are in need of talented and dedicated individuals to fill the following work-trade and contract positions. These positions require that you are able to attend our Annual Symposium October 10-14, 2019 in Bethesda, Maryland. 

Silent Auction Coordinator (work-trade position)

The silent auction is an engaging event at Symposium that benefits the recipients of AHG’s annual community-based awards.  The more successful the silent auction is, the more we can help those who are helping others!

Responsibilities:

  • Solicits all donations for the auction. Must be willing to reach out to local businesses, people in the AHG community and beyond to gather donations.
  • Carefully records all gifts, assigns a value, and sends thank you cards to donors.
  • Works with volunteers during Symposium to organize all donations and to create an attractive, aesthetically pleasing display. During the silent auction, the Coordinator tracks bids and assigns a bid winner for each item.
  • Responsible for coordinating the shipping or transportation of donations to venue.

Required skills

  • Organized, creative and able to delegate when necessary
  • Proficient with basic use of Microsoft Excel
  • Good communicator
  • Comfortable asking for donations
  • Detail oriented with a professional demeanor
  • Good aesthetic eye
  • Able to adapt and to work under time pressure

The Silent Auction Coordinator reports directly to the AHG Office Manager and will have a team of support volunteers to help gather donations and to assist on the ground at Symposium. This is a work-trade position. Compensation is a free Symposium ticket.

Tech Coordinator (paid contract) 

Seeking a tech-savvy individual to perform the setup, breakdown, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all technical AV necessities at Symposium. This includes:

  • Laptop & PowerPoint projectors for all classrooms and meeting spaces
  • Sound set up for all classrooms, pre-Symposium events, keynote event, and post-Symposium intensive  
  • Sound and tech for the Thursday evening event, Herb Crawl, Saturday evening Reception, and Sunday movie night 

Required Skills:

  • Technical proficiency working with sound equipment and PowerPoint projectors
  • Flexible, good communicator, problem solver and able to work under pressure
  • Dependable and punctual

The Technical Supervisor works closely with the Onsite Event Coordinator and the Education Coordinator.

Tech Assistant (paid contract) 

Technical Assistant(s) needed to assist the Technical Supervisor with setup and breakdown, maintenance and trouble-shooting of all technical AV necessities including. This includes:

Registration Assistant (paid contract)

The Registration Assistant assists at the Symposium registration table. Duties include: 

  • Assist with assembly of registration packets
  • Assist with set up of the registration table
  • Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the registration table
  • Be present at the table except during scheduled break times or break times clearly communicated to a supervisor
  • Greet Symposium attendees in a prompt, friendly, and courteous manner
  • Check-in Symposium teachers, attendees, vendors, sponsors, and AHG council in a polite, friendly, and courteous manner
  • Be prepared to answer all questions by reading over materials provided by the AHG office
  • Oversee registration table volunteers
  • Take payments for onsite registrations
  • Maintain lists of payments collected
  • Assist with other Symposium on-site tasks as needed

Photographer (work-trade)

Seeking a photographer experienced with event photography to document Symposium.

The perfect candidate is comfortable working with people in a busy setting to get engaging, quality images that will be shared on the AHG website and in promotional materials. Photographer must be able to work closely with AHG staff and Symposium Committee to create professional, aesthetically pleasing images. 

This is a work-trade position. In return for services, Photographer receives a free Symposium ticket and a complimentary pass to the mixer on Thursday night. Meals and lodging are not included. Photographer also receives a set of all class recordings upon submission of event photos.

Pre-Symposium Assistance (mid-September to early October):

Seeking Temporary Office Assistants local to Asheville, NC (temporary contract position paid hourly):

Assist with packing, printing, cleaning, and other office tasks. Required skills: basic computer skills (Excel, Word), punctual, flexible, friendly, able to work in a busy office setting. MUST BE LOCAL TO ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA.
