Join Phyllis D. Light for the keynote presentation on Friday, October 26, 2018, from 8:00 PM – 9:00 PM.

Phyllis D. Light, MA, RH (AHG), is a fourth generation herbalist and healer. She began her studies in Southern and Appalachian folk medicine at the age of 10 in the deep woods of North Alabama with lessons from her Creek/Cherokee grandmother before continuing to study with well-known folk herbalist Tommie Bass. She later received her Master of Health Studies from the University of Alabama.

Phyllis has been a practicing herbalist for over 25 years. In addition to private practice, Phyllis has worked in a medical clinic in Birmingham, Alabama and was the supervising herbalist at Common Ground Health Clinic in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. She was Director of Herbal Studies at Clayton College of Natural Health, taught CEU courses in integrative medicine for Diversified Nursing Services, and has written articles for many industry magazines.

Phyllis is the Director of the Appalachian Center for Natural Health in Arab, Alabama, which offers both online and residential classes. Phyllis is also a Registered Herbalist (AHG) and a licensed massage therapist. She is the author of Southern Folk Medicine (North Atlantic, 2018).

An important goal of Phyllis’s professional career is to share the rich herbal traditions of the Southern United States, which are as applicable today as they were 300 years ago. It’s only with continued use that long-standing, bioregional herbal traditions and plant use will continue to thrive and survive.
