This 90 minute webinar offers a physician's perspective on the state of the coronavirus pandemic, with updates on epidemiology and preventive guidelines, emerging data on the pathomechanisms and complications of COVID-19 infection, and emerging treatments including medications and vaccines. We will discuss the tension between relaxing social distancing and preventing a resurgence of infections, and grapple with alternative and conventional perspectives on prevention and treatment. We will review red flags for seeking higher level of care, and explore ways that herbalists can collaborate with other healthcare providers in their communities to promote well-being. Participants will be invited to submit questions in advance and also have opportunities to engage in discussion during the presentation via the chat room. 

Bio: Ingrid Bauer, MD, a board certified Internal Medicine physician, has been studying and practicing herbal medicine and nutrition for nearly 20 years. Ingrid is co-founder of Five Flavors Herbs, an herbal manufacturer, product line, and herbal pharmacy in Oakland, California. Ingrid brings a research background in anthropology, Latin American studies, botany, and phytomedicine to her lectures on cross cultural uses of botanical medicine and herb-drug interactions, and she delights in bridging the gap between conventional and alternative healthcare. She currently works as a primary care doctor in a rural community health center in Grass Valley, CA, and runs a private practice, Paeonia Integrative Medicine, with her husband Benjamin Zappin, L.Ac.. She enjoys spending her free time hiking, gardening, practicing yoga, cooking, and shepherding her two kids and farm animals, and remains active in promoting peace and social justice.

By offering suggested sliding scale for these timely webinars, we invite all interested to attend these webinars at the level of financial contribution that is comfortable for them, while also acknowledging the expertise of the webinar presenters and the amount of behind-the-scenes planning which goes into planning and hosting these.

As a non-profit, it is part of our mission to support access to herbal medicine for all and advocate for excellence in herbal education.
