Appalachia School of Holistic Herbalism
ASHH provides sound technical training in holistic healing with a focus on preventative lifestyle. Holistic healing aims to do no harm to the planet in realization that there is no separation between that which we do to ourselves and that which we do to the whole. Holistic health supports the well being of the entire person: mind, body, and spirit.
Students are educated and empowered to cultivate deep wellness within themselves and others using hands, heart, nature, and plants. In a society more familiar with corporate logos than backyard plants, it is imperative that we reclaim the innate wisdom of identifying, honoring, and utilizing the plant kingdom. The earth’s bounty is always reaching out to us, offering its aid to restore us to vitality.
Learning in nature and through nature at ASHH, on our thirty-acre campus, connects the student to the roots and essence of Herbalism. Through the study of medicinal plants and holistic living skills, we return the ancient art of healing to the individual and to the family, rebuilding conscientious communities and embracing our divine potential.
We must learn to love and care for the Earth as we would our own children. In doing so, we find this nurturance becomes our nourishment. This is why, at ASHH, we offer classes for children as well as beginning, intermediate, and advanced adults.

Our low-cost community herb clinic, staffed by our 3rd year clinical students under supervision of faculty, provides services both on-site and during fieldtrips to visit local NGOs, with mutual sharing of herbal knowledge and traditions. We also offer community classes throughout the year to support our mission of being a progressive community resource for increasing public access to comprehensive herbal knowledge and care.

We offer 2 options:

This option is a 7- month self-paced curriculum for beginners with an emphasis on Holly’s 4-Tier Philosophy of Formulary. It consists of 19 lessons (divided into 3 sets) based on men’s and women’s body systems as well as Hands-On Apothecary Assignments using a variety of plants and techniques. You'll get full curriculum materials including Holly's books The Essential Herbal for Natural Health, The Authentic Herbal Healer, a Student Workbook, helpful and colorful webinar videos, digital materials, former lectures, a complete Audio CD set for easy listening and studying, and Holly's popular Goal-Setting Guide for Open Minded Business Owners. Successful completion of the distance program confers a Certificate of Herbal Studies & Formulary. Distance Tuition: $895.
2) 2-Week Training Intensive on Martha's Vineyard. Every June we host a delightful and engaging 2-week training and certification intensive for intermediate learners. The next Intensive will take place June 13-24 2016 (Early Bird Registration ends March 1 2016). This fantastic learning opportunity on the beautiful island of Martha's Vineyard teaches the herbal curriculum in a dynamic small-group setting for an engaging exploration of all herbal medicine has to offer. We meet in a casual and supportive environment to study plant ID, harvesting, processing, apothecary, case studies, jurisprudence, and more--with an emphasis on herbal formulary. With its in-depth focus on how herbs work in the body (the curriculum is organized by body system), the 2-Week Intensive also includes hands-on experience processing a variety of folk remedies. Students also participate in multiple herb walks, field trips, garden and arboreta explorations around the beautiful island of Martha's Vineyard, as well as kitchen processing, pharmacology and physiology based on the body's primary systems (respiratory, reproductive, digestive, etc.). Our studies include the heritage and folklore of healing, the philosophy of healers from around the world, and more. If you want to deepen your understanding of herbs and how they work in the body--and to learn how to apply formulary in family and community settings, this is the course for you. Every year this is a very well-received course that strengthens students' abilities and builds community.
Pre-requisite: demonstrable intermediate experience/education in either plants (gardening, farming, botany, etc.) OR healthcare (nursing, midwifery, herbalism, etc.).
Certificate Earned: Community Herbalist Certificate.
Tuition: Early Bird: $2,295 (until March 1). Normal Tuition: $2,495 (until June 10).
Housing: Housing is available at $400 per week at the Herbal HQ, the charming house where all of our classes will take place, in walking distance to a private beach on the Atlantic Ocean.
Note: This is an intermediate program, not an advanced clinical program. We do not cover diagnosis, cancer, or diabetes. It is, however, a comprehensive introduction to the complex how and why of herbal healing. For testimonials and additional details, and to register, please visit www.HollyBellebuono.com.
Where is Martha's Vineyard? We are located on a truly gorgeous, windswept, sea-embraced island off the coast of Cape Cod; we are blessed with lots of farms and local farmers who are very involved in the community, as well as five small towns and fishing villages, art, culture, history, woodland trails, beautiful beaches, and a safe and friendly family environment. People here are interested in world culture and devoted to local living; it's a place where herbal medicine fits into the fabric of self-sufficiency and Earth appreciation nicely, and we're only a hop-skip-and-jump from Boston and it's history and walking tours.
